Ready to remove your tattoo?

Ready to remove your tattoo? | Fort Worth TX | Keller TXWhatever your reason you might decide that you are ready to have your tattoo removed. Not an impossible desire, but there are some things you need to know before deciding to pursue tattoo removal.

The most important thing is to consult with your dermatologist about tattoo removal because they are more complicated and more expensive than having a tattoo put on.  It is never something to attempt on your own. Removal creams or other home remedies are not effective; you will only waste time and money.

Your dermatologist can help you decide which removal method will work best for the size and ink used.

The most used methods of tattoo removal include laser surgery, surgical tattoo removal, and dermabrasion. Even with the best methods of tattoo removal, you might still have scarring and discoloration.

Tattoo removal is usually an outpatient procedure that is done using a local anesthetic. If your dermatologist recommends and you choose laser surgery, your skin will be numbed with a local anesthetic.  Lasers provide pulses of energy on the tattoo site. If there are many colors, or a large size, then different size lasers and wavelengths might be used.  Removal might require more than one session

After laser removal of tattoos, you might experience swelling, blistering, or even bleeding at the site. Antibacterial ointment may help with such discomfort.

A small tattoo might be removed best by surgery. Again the skin is numbed, but with this type of tattoo removal a scalpel is used to remove the tattoo. The edges of the skin are then stitched back together. While it is effective, it will also leave a scar.

Dermabrasion of a tattoo, when the tattoo is sanded down using a high speed device with abrasive wheel, is the least popular of tattoo removals. The tattooed area is numbed by cold. The tattooed skin is sanded down to deeper levels with an abrasive wheel or brush.
