Simple Face Washing Steps That Can Improve Your Skin
Washing your face may seem like a no-brainer, but did you know following a few simple steps could actually improve the appearance of your skin?
Start by selecting the right cleanser, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. A quality facial cleanser is one that is gentle on your skin. Look for a mild, non-abrasive cleanser that doesn’t contain alcohol. Alcohol based or acidic products can irritate the skin and can also cause excessive drying.
Moisten your skin by splashing it with lukewarm water and apply the cleanser with your fingertips –no scrubbing. Hot water can cause excessive drying and facial brushes or even washcloths can be abrasive when used every day. Gentle exfoliation treatments help to remove dead skin cells, but should be limited to once a week.
Remove the cleanser by rinsing, again using lukewarm water and dry your face using a soft, clean towel. Be sure to pat, not rub. Rubbing your face stretches the skin and can be irritating. Be especially cautious with the delicate skin around the eyes.
Apply moisturizer immediately after cleansing. Even oily skin may benefit from a light, water-based moisturizer.
Avoid over-washing by sticking to a twice-daily routine, once in the morning and again before bed. You should also wash your face immediately after sweating to remove bacteria and prevent pores from clogging.
