Fillers Q & A
What Are Fillers?
Dermal fillers are a cosmetic treatment that is injected beneath the skin in order to restore wrinkled or saggy skin to a smoother and more youthful state. At Northstar Dermatology, the highly skilled dermatologists want to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. After a consultation discussing your needs, they may recommend fillers for:

  • Filling in nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Nonsurgical lip or hand augmentation
  • Filling in deep-pitted acne scars
  • Enhancing sunken-in cheeks

The practice also offers Botox® if you wish to address dynamic wrinkles, which develop from repetitive facial movements. This type of injectable causes the contracted skin to relax and smoothen out. You can also combine Botox with fillers.
What Types Of Fillers Are Available?

Northstar Dermatology offers Juvéderm fillers, a popular type of filler made of hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a substance normally found in skin, muscle, and tendons of mammals. It can absorb 1,000 times its own weight in water. This means that after getting HA fillers, it can attract and hold water under the skin for lasting results.

The body also absorbs other filler substances. Other fillers include calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a mineral found in teeth and bones and injected in the face or back of the hand, or poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable polymer which is used in absorbable stitches and bone screws.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Since the body naturally absorbs most all fillers, the aesthetic effects are always temporary. The duration of filler results vary based on the material used.

In general, dermal fillers can last for six months or more*. If you also choose to receive Botox injections, results can last for four months*. As time goes on, the product naturally dissipates and you’ll notice the lines and wrinkles return. However, you can schedule additional treatments at Northstar Dermatology for extended results.

You should always take good care of your skin to reduce further cosmetic or environmental damage that can make you age faster.

If you’re interested in dermal fillers as part of your cosmetic plan, call Northstar Dermatology or schedule an appointment online today. We are located in North Richland Hills, proudly serving local residents and residents in surrounding areas.
